Abuja: The Olubadan designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, arrived in Ibadan to a warm reception after weeks of absence from the city. His return marks a significant moment for the community, as he prepares to assume the role of the 44th Olubadan.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oba Ladoja was greeted at the Ibadan-Lagos tollgate by family members and well-wishers who gathered to welcome him back. Following his arrival, he proceeded to his Isale-Osi family house in Ibadan South East Local Government Area, where a mini reception was organized in his honor.
The Olubadan Advisory Council had previously nominated Oba Ladoja as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland on August 4, following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7. The community now awaits the commencement of traditional rites for Oba Ladoja’s coronation, pending the approval of his nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Oba Ladoja, renowned as a shipping magnate and industrialist, has a notable history in politics. He served as a senator in the aborted third republic and as the governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2007 under the platform of the PDP. His tenure as governor was marked by his impeachment under controversial circumstances, which lasted for 11 months before he was reinstated by the court.
