Post: Organisation Commits to Providing Daily Meals for Children and Vulnerable People

Amudo: The One Meal a Day for the Children Initiative (OMDCI) has pledged its commitment to improving the food intake of needy children and women, with the aim of fostering better living conditions. Founder of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mrs. Ijeoma Nwokpoku, made this announcement during an outreach event on Monday at Amudo in Aguinyima Community of the Ezza-South Local Government Area.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nwokpoku explained that the initiative aims to ensure every child has access to at least one nutritious meal daily, in an effort to eliminate hunger. The intervention specifically targets vulnerable children, women, and the elderly. “This outreach marks our first charity outreach for 2026 as we step into the year with purpose, ensuring that no child goes hungry and no woman is forgotten. Apart from food, we offer hope and remind them that they are seen and valued,” Nwokpoku stated.

She further noted that the initiative is self-funded, relying on contributions from families and friends. The organisation has sponsored three university graduates from the community and continues to support others still in school. Additionally, the NGO has extended support to widows, the elderly, and indigent patients needing assistance with medical bills.

Nwokpoku emphasized that the organisation is active in all 36 states, including the federal capital territory, with the vision of building a society where no child goes to bed hungry. She identified a lack of funds as a significant challenge hindering the group’s effective service and called for assistance from well-meaning individuals.

In his remarks, the Legal Adviser of the organisation, Mr. Nathaniel Nwokpoku, expressed confidence that the body would continue to ensure the less privileged have access to food. Complementing the initiative, nurse Mrs. Ukamaka Nwafor delivered a health talk, urging participants to consume natural and healthy food and maintain adequate water intake for overall well-being.

Beneficiaries Mrs. Oluchukwu Nwuzor and Mr. Chukwuma Anyigor expressed gratitude to the founder, describing the support as a lifeline that would help families in need. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event included a medical outreach and the distribution of food, educational materials, wrappers, among other relief materials.
