Post: PDP Board of Trustees Calls for Unity and End to Legal Battles

Abuja: The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated on Wednesday that persistent legal challenges by dissatisfied members must be replaced by reconciliation and unity for the party to consolidate. The National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Abdulrahman Mohammed, made this statement during the 86th meeting of the Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa-led Board of Trustees (BoT) in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed stressed that recent court decisions should act as a final reminder for members to lay down their arms. He emphasized the importance of unity among party stakeholders and leaders for the benefit of the party, urging an end to litigations that could hinder activities leading up to the 2027 general election. This meeting, presided over by Ohuabunwa, served as a platform to outline the party’s roadmap for upcoming state congresses and the National Convention.

Ohuabunwa described the gathering as a crucial moment for the PDP, calling for wisdom, institutional memory, and calm reflectio
n. He emphasized the role of the Board of Trustees as custodians of the party’s values and constitutional integrity. Ohuabunwa highlighted the successful ward and local government congresses across the country, which were peaceful, transparent, and reflective of the PDP’s democratic spirit.

He expressed optimism that the upcoming state congresses would further consolidate the party’s process and strengthen its structures nationwide. These congresses are viewed as critical steps in renewing the PDP’s legitimacy, inclusiveness, and vitality. Additionally, preparations are underway for the National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, which will provide an opportunity for the party to reposition itself and reaffirm its commitment to democratic principles, unity, and national service.

Ohuabunwa acknowledged recent Court of Appeal judgments affirming the legality and authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed. These judicial pronouncements have provided necessary clarit
y and stability within the party. As a law-abiding political organization, the PDP respects court decisions and will continue to conduct its affairs in accordance with the rule of law and the party constitution.
