Abuja: Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that there is still an opportunity for defectors to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike, who is also the PDP national leader, made this assertion at the party’s 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at Wadata Plaza, the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike emphasized the importance of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC) continuing its reconciliation efforts to bolster the party. He urged the committee to establish a strong team dedicated to reaching out to those who have left the party, noting that there is room for them to return and reclaim their due positions. Wike highlighted that many defectors left due to uncertainty and would reconsider their stance as the party regains its footing.
Wike expressed his unwavering support and loyalty to the PDP, citing his long-standing membership since 1998. He also voiced confidence in the party’s legal team handling pending court cases and expressed faith in divine guidance for the party’s continued success. Additionally, Wike congratulated the NWC for reclaiming Wadata Plaza, underscoring its significance as the party’s national secretariat and a symbol of authenticity.
The meeting also featured remarks from Abdulrahman Mohammed, who reiterated the party’s desire to welcome back defected members. Mohammed highlighted the ongoing efforts by the party leadership to engage with aggrieved members for genuine reconciliation. Similarly, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, stressed the importance of unity within the PDP for its collective survival and success, calling for genuine reconciliation in the aftermath of the party’s national convention.
