Abuja: The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has issued a firm warning to military pensioners, retirees, and Next-of-Kin (NOKs) about the risks of disclosing personal information to fraudsters posing as official agents of the board.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this cautionary statement was released by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Sqn.-Ldr. Aliyu Mohammed, highlighting the board’s concern over reports of fraudulent individuals contacting pensioners. These fraudsters claim to offer services such as facilitating loans, processing benefits, or providing financial services, all in an attempt to extract sensitive personal data from unsuspecting retirees.
Mohammed noted that these individuals often request sensitive information, including Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), National Identification Numbers (NIN), bank account details, ATM card information, and other personal data. He stressed that pensioners should refrain from sharing such information with any person, group, or platform not officially sanctioned by the board.
Pensioners are advised to consider any request for confidential information from unofficial sources as fraudulent and to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities. Mohammed emphasized that the military pensions board does not use third parties to collect pensioners’ personal or banking information for processing loans, pension payments, gratuities, or any other benefits.
He encouraged pensioners and NOKs to conduct all their pension-related transactions exclusively through recognized MPB channels and designated contact lines. Mohammed assured that the MPB remains dedicated to protecting the welfare of military retirees and will continue working with relevant agencies to combat fraudulent activities targeting pensioners.
