Abuja: The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG and EV), the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and the Abia State Government have committed to deepening collaboration on clean energy.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the commitment was made during a working visit organized by the Chief Executive Officer of MOFI, Dr. Armstrong Takang, who led the delegation received by the Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. As part of the visit, the delegation witnessed the inauguration of 20 additional electric buses by the Abia government, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, more sustainable public transportation. This effort reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding clean mobility solutions across the country.
The development is expected to spur sustainable transportation and infrastructure development, accelerating economic growth and improving the quality of life for Nigerians. Mr. Ismaeel Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Pi-CNG, emphasized in a statement that energy, agriculture, and transportation are interconnected sectors that must be developed in an integrated manner to unlock sustainable economic growth. He underlined that transportation fundamentally serves as an enabler of economic activity by facilitating the movement of people and goods, creating jobs, generating wealth, and improving livelihoods.
Ahmed reaffirmed Pi-CNG and EVs’ commitment to partnering with the Abia Government to expand the adoption of CNG as a cleaner and more affordable transportation fuel. He stated that the initiative would continue to work with the state to develop the clean mobility ecosystem through strategic partnerships, infrastructure development, and stakeholder engagement aimed at reducing transportation costs.
In his remarks, Dr. Takang, CEO of MOFI, emphasized that national development must extend beyond Abuja to deliver meaningful impact to communities across the country. He described energy, agriculture, and transportation as critical sectors central to the Federal Government’s development agenda under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He called for closer partnerships between Pi-CNG and EV, REA, and the Abia State Government to ensure that ongoing Federal Government interventions translate into tangible benefits for the people of Abia and the South-East.
The Managing Director of REA, Abba Aliyu, also participated in the discussions, focusing on strengthening collaboration to expand access to reliable energy, support sustainable infrastructure, and improve development outcomes across Abia. Governor Otti, while welcoming the delegation, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the commitment of the Abia State Government to working with Pi-CNG and EV, MOFI, and REA. He emphasized that this collaboration would expand access to clean energy solutions, improve transportation infrastructure, and attract investments that will drive sustainable economic development in the state.
