Post: Police Arraign Teen Over Alleged Threat and Assault in Badagry

Badagry: The police on Monday arraigned a 16-year-old girl before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged threat to kill a 15-year-old girl for reportedly snatching her boyfriend. The defendant is facing charges of threat to life and breach of public peace, to which she pleaded not guilty.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the prosecutor, Inspector Friday Mameh, informed the court that the offences took place on February 20 at around 9:00 p.m. at Khalakuta Jegba Quarters, Badagry, Lagos. Mameh alleged that the defendant attempted to harm the complainant by using a razor blade to cut her face, resulting in injuries.

Mameh further stated that the defendant’s actions were likely to cause a breach of the peace, as they created pandemonium in the neighborhood. The conflict arose when the defendant accused the complainant of taking her boyfriend.

The prosecutor explained, “The defendant used a razor blade to cut the face of the complainant so that she would leave her boyfriend for her. She was arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.” He noted that the alleged offences contravened Sections 230 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. A. J. Aina, granted the defendant bail set at N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate stipulated that one of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 12.
