Calabar: A coordinated search-and-rescue and tactical operations are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of 15 passengers abducted on Friday by gunmen on the Calabar-Oron waterway. The Spokesperson of the Cross River Police Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, made this known in a statement on Monday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the command is working in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom Command and the Navy. The coordinated efforts aim to ensure the safe recovery of the victims and the swift apprehension of the perpetrators involved in the incident.
A Naval officer, who pleaded anonymity, informed the News Agency of Nigeria that the gunmen ambushed the ferry in which the passengers were traveling. The passenger ferry, which had loaded from Calabar, Cross River, was en route to Oron in Akwa Ibom when the incident occurred. The authorities are intensifying their efforts to bring the situation under control and ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.
