Abuja: The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Mutiat Disu, has reaffirmed the association’s commitment to uplifting the lives of its members. Disu emphasized that the leadership will continue its efforts by helping the needy, exploring economic empowerment opportunities, prioritizing mental health and emotional well-being, and focusing on skills acquisition. This assurance was given at the grand finale gala night of the three-day annual POWA convention held in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Disu also reiterated the association’s dedication to supporting widows and vulnerable families in society. She emphasized the invaluable role of police officers’ wives, stating their commitment to exploring new opportunities for economic empowerment and prioritizing mental and emotional well-being. Disu pledged to renew the commitment to skills acquisition and support for widows, vulnerable families, and each other.
She acknowledged all delegates from the POWA national body and
sister associations, urging them to use the achievements from the convention to strengthen their state chapters. Disu encouraged her management team, state chairpersons, city formation wives, and every member of the association to carry the spirit of the convention back to their commands and states.
The POWA president also expressed gratitude to the association’s grand patron, the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for his unwavering support for the welfare of police officers’ wives. She noted that his confidence in POWA continues to inspire the association to do more.
In a goodwill message, the Inspector-General of Police commended POWA members, acknowledging the resilience required by the wives of police officers, who often demonstrate the toughness and dexterity of trained officers.
The Special Guest of Honour, the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, also commended the POWA president for hosting a successful convention. Represented by the wife of the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Oghogho Musa,
Tinubu noted that celebrating excellence inspires others to serve and make an impact. She encouraged the women to build on the bonds formed during the convention to evolve and become more resilient.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event featured an inter-zone dance competition, won by Mrs. Precious Okamba from the Anambra command, who received the star prize of N1 million. The event also included a musical performance by its ambassador, Afrobeats artiste Korede Bello.
