Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has attributed the ongoing water supply shortage in the territory to damage caused by a private developer.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike explained that a significant pipe for the FCT water project was damaged due to private construction activities. He made this statement in Abuja while discussing the water supply issues affecting parts of the capital city. After inspecting several ongoing projects, Wike assured journalists that the FCT Administration is actively working to restore water supply to the impacted areas.
The Minister revealed that upon receiving reports of the disrupted water supply, he learned that the issue stemmed from a private development’s impact on a crucial water pipe. He emphasized that the water board is diligently working to repair the damage and restore normalcy.
Wike mentioned plans to visit the affected site to assess the damage and evaluate potential sanctions against the private developer responsible for the disruption. He stated his willingness to halt the developer’s project if necessary, underscoring the importance of prioritizing public welfare over private interests.
The Minister appealed to the public for patience, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the situation. He reassured residents that the FCT Water Board is committed to resolving the issue promptly, even though the fault originated from a private entity.
