Abuja: The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, hosted Prof. Wautabouna Ouattara, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the West Africa region, for a courtesy visit. This meeting took place on Friday, 8 August 2025, marking an important engagement between the regional and international financial institutions.
According to African Press Organization, President Touray expressed support for Prof. Ouattara’s recent appointment and emphasized the importance of the IMF’s role in developing a West African regional market. He highlighted the need for collaborative programs that enhance regional stability and economic integration.
During the meeting, Prof. Ouattara commended ECOWAS for its efforts in conflict resolution and economic integration within the region. He assured President Touray of his commitment to collaborate closely with ECOWAS and the 14 countries he represents. The discussions also focused on addressing key challenges such as public debt, budget deficits, and fostering economic growth.
