Post: PTDF Screens 5,885 Candidates for Overseas Scholarship

Abuja: The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has initiated the screening process for 5,885 candidates shortlisted for the 2026/2027 Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) for MSc and Ph.D. awards. This was confirmed by Dr. Bello Mustapha, Deputy General Manager of Education and Training at PTDF, during the commencement of interviews held on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the PTDF received over 38,000 applications, but only 5,885 candidates were shortlisted through a transparent process. The screening exercise is being conducted simultaneously across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones: North-central in Abuja, North-East in Bauchi, North-West in Kaduna, South-South in Rivers, South-East in Enugu, and South-West in Oyo.

Dr. Mustapha explained that the selection process involves strict criteria, focusing on academic performance, relevant work experience, and overall qualifications. Candidates need to have at least a second class upper degree along with other specific requirements. Secondary school results also play a role in the assessment process. The interviews are being conducted across six centers, allowing candidates to choose any venue irrespective of their state of origin.

The final selection will adhere to the Federal Character principle to ensure fair representation from all states. The number of successful candidates will depend on the available budget and management approval. The scholarship covers petroleum-related courses, with additional programs in management and petroleum law included.

Candidates have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies abroad. Miss Maria Ochanya, a Biochemistry graduate, shared her gratitude, stating that the scholarship would enable her to pursue an MSc in Industrial Biotechnology and contribute back to society. Mr. Alhaji Ikoh, who has applied for an MSc in Environmental Science, praised the professionalism of the process and remains hopeful for a successful outcome.
