Post: Put Merit Above Party Interest, SDP Candidate Solomon Akwashiki Urges Nigerians

Abuja: The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Mr. Solomon Akwashiki, has urged the electorate to prioritize competence and merit over party interests when selecting leaders. Akwashiki, who currently represents Lafia Central Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of choosing credible and God-fearing leaders, free from ethnic or party sentiments.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the lawmaker, who also serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, shared his views on Monday in Lafia following the endorsement of his candidacy by the Forum of Former Councillors in Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas. He highlighted that electing leaders with credibility and competence would foster development across the nation.

In response to questions about potential conflicts of interest, given that some former councillors are affiliated with parties that are also fielding candidates for the seat, Akwashiki stated: “This is not about political party, it is about serving the people first. They are not defecting. They want quality representation, which they have seen in me. They have assessed my track record and performance in office.”

Akwashiki detailed his contributions, including drilling several boreholes, providing jobs, offering empowerment support, and initiating projects that directly impact people’s lives. He assured that he would not disappoint the constituents if elected to the National Assembly’s Green Chamber in 2027.

The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the forum for their endorsement and pledged to uphold the trust placed in him. He also announced a donation of 100 bags of fertilizer and N1 million to the forum, promising continued support. Additionally, Akwashiki urged constituents to live peacefully and tolerate one another, regardless of political affiliations.
