Abuja: Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his Rainbow Coalition’s support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Wike gave the assurance in a statement issued by his Senior Specialist Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister’s comments followed a warning by state governors elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against the creation of parallel political structures capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum made the declaration on behalf of the governors during a closed-door meeting in Abuja.
Wike, however, explained that the coalition does not have anything to do with APC as erroneously perceived by some APC governors. He stated that the coalition is a platform for other political parties that are pleased with the works of Tinubu and are supporting his re-election. He emphasized that it is an effort to mobilise support across political parties for the president, who he believes deserves a second term.
The minister further clarified that the Rainbow Coalition was not initiated to assist individuals in winning elections in their states. He stressed that politics is local and those facing challenges in their states should address them instead of using Tinubu’s re-election bid to create sentiment. Wike noted that he never met with APC governors before he and other members of the G5 supported Tinubu in 2023, asserting that his support for the 2027 elections is exclusively for the president.
Wike urged all Tinubu supporters to focus first on the presidential election, stating that after the president is re-elected, attention can then shift to state elections. He reiterated his commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu’s re-election and clarified that he never promised that the PDP would not field candidates for governorship, National Assembly, and state House of Assembly elections. He expressed confidence that voters will not be confused in 2027 if they genuinely support the president.
