Abuja: The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, has announced the distribution of cash and food items valued at over 200 million to residents of Goronyo Local Government Area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Goronyo made this announcement in a statement signed by his Special Assistant Media, Mr. Abdullahi Mohammed, highlighting the initiative’s alignment with themes of compassion, solidarity, and responsible leadership. The distribution aims to support vulnerable households and alleviate economic pressures as Muslims prepare for the holy month of Ramadan.
Goronyo emphasized that this annual initiative reflects his persistent dedication to social welfare, inclusive governance, and grassroots empowerment. The support package includes significant cash donations and essential food items such as rice, millet, sugar, guinea corn, maize, and wrappers, with a total value exceeding ?200 million. This effort ensures that beneficiaries can observe Ramadan with dignity and comfort.
In the distribution exercise, ?33 million was allocated to Local Government and Ward Executives. Members of the Local Government Executive received ?100,000 each, while some executive members were given ?50,000 each. Other beneficiaries included the Goronyo Social Media Group, Goronyo Youths Association, APC Youth Mobilisation, Goronyo, eight elderly community leaders, Goronyo Students Association, former councillors of Goronyo, defectors, and women’s associations.
Additionally, the initiative distributed three trailer loads of rice valued at approximately ?90 million, along with bags of sugar worth ?28 million, and large quantities of millet and wrappers. Institutions such as NOWA, the Ministry of Justice (Magistrate and Courts), and INEC also benefited from the Ramadan intervention.
