Agbor: The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has swiftly deployed its Delta State Branch emergency teams to conduct search, rescue, and life-saving operations in response to a train derailment in Agbor, Delta. Volunteers from the Red Cross, alongside railway officials and community members, have promptly arrived at the scene to assist in emergency response activities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NRCS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chima Nwankwo, confirmed that Branch Secretary Mr. Charles Arinomor reported the involvement of other responders, including the Commissioner for Special Duties, the Commissioner of Police, and the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). Although active operations paused at nightfall, significant progress has been achieved, with efforts set to resume at first light to ensure no victim is left unattended.
The evacuation of stranded passengers is ongoing, with affected individuals being transported to Agbor town to facilitate further travel to their destinations. Injured passengers have been evacuated by government ambulances and are currently receiving medical care at Agbor Central Hospital. The response effort encompasses coordinated stakeholder activation, search and rescue operations, immediate first aid, and psychosocial support for those affected and their families.
The NRCS emphasized its commitment to providing continuous medical assistance, relief materials, and psychosocial support in collaboration with government authorities. The emergency response is being managed by a combined medical team, with NRCS leadership closely working with state authorities and emergency agencies to address the needs of affected passengers and their families.
