Post: Rotary Club Boosts Healthcare in Kubwa with Essential Donations

Abuja: Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa, has donated mattresses, birthing kits, and mosquito nets to health facilities in Kubwa to support emergency and maternal healthcare services.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the mattresses were presented to the Accident and Emergency Ward of Kubwa General Hospital.

Birthing kits and mosquito nets were also distributed to pregnant women and nursing mothers at Kungabokun Primary Healthcare Centre in the Kubwa area. President of the club, Rotarian Nosa Aiyemen, stated that the donations reflected Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service. Aiyemen mentioned that the club consulted the hospital’s management to identify its most urgent needs before making the donation. He noted that mattresses were among the hospital’s immediate requirements, prompting the intervention.

He further explained that Rotary complements government efforts by addressing critical needs in local communities. July is Rotary’s Maternal and Child Health Month, during which the club supports vulnerable groups. Aiyemen added that the club had previously donated bedsheets and screen boards to Kubwa General Hospital and assured the hospital of the club’s continued partnership, urging the management to ensure that the mattresses were used for their intended purpose.

Former president of the club, Rotarian Obas Ekeinde, highlighted Rotary as a global humanitarian organisation with more than a century of service, comprising professionals committed to improving lives through voluntary community service. He stated that members contribute their resources, skills, and time to support sustainable development. Another former president, Rotarian Lucky Monye, urged beneficiaries not to sell the items, emphasizing that proper use of mosquito nets would help reduce malaria among mothers and children.

The Matron of Kubwa General Hospital, Mrs. Uchenna Nwokenna, commended the club for the donation, while the Officer-in-Charge of Kungabokun Primary Healthcare Centre, Mrs. Gloria Alazhizhi, appreciated the intervention, stating that the donations would strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the community. The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards of excellence to some management staff of Kubwa General Hospital by the Rotaract Club of Abuja Kubwa, recognizing their hard work and dedication to duty.
