Nasarawa: The Rotary Club of Abuja, Central Business District (CBD) has distributed free delivery items to over 150 pregnant women at the Primary Health Care Centre, Ruga Juli in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The initiative is part of the club’s maternal and child healthcare outreach.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the President of the Club, Rhoda Mando, highlighted that this activity is a major project for the club in 2026. The club aimed to provide essential items to ease the delivery process for pregnant women. Items distributed included mosquito nets, disinfectant, and detergent. Mando noted the economic challenges that prompted this effort, emphasizing the need for such initiatives in remote areas like Ruga Juli.
Mando described the turnout of women as significant and expressed plans to extend similar assistance to other rural communities in the Federal Capital Territory. She urged the beneficiaries to maintain cleanliness for their health and their newborns. The club conducts needs assessments in communities to align with its seven cardinal points, focusing on areas like maternal health and water sanitation.
The Community Leader of Ruga Juli, Mr. Suleiman Salihu, expressed gratitude towards the Rotary Club for their support. This gesture marked the first time such assistance was provided in the community. Beneficiaries like Hajiya Hassana Aliyu thanked the club, expressing relief and appreciation for the delivery items.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that over 40 nursing mothers received mosquito-treated nets and other essential items for themselves and their children.
