Post: RTEAN Seeks Establishment of Bank of Transportation

Abuja: The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has called on the Federal Government to establish a specialised Bank of Transportation to provide financial support for operators across the sector. The National President of RTEAN, Alhaji Musa Maitakobi, made the call in a communique on Thursday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Maitakobi highlighted the transportation sector as a strategic pillar of national development and noted that ongoing economic and infrastructural reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration had repositioned the sector. He stressed the need for a dedicated financial institution to allow operators access to affordable credit facilities for fleet renewal, infrastructure development, safety improvements, and sectoral expansion.

Maitakobi stated, “We are writing to the government for the government to consider establishing a Bank of Transportation like the Bank of Industry and Bank of Agriculture. Transportation cuts across land, sea, and air. The sector needs a structured financial institution that understands its peculiarities and can provide the necessary support for sustainable growth. So, we are demanding the Federal Government to look at our demand for them to consider to give us Bank of Transport.”

He further declared the support of the association to Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, citing the achievements recorded by his administration as the reason for the endorsement. Maitakobi noted that the present government’s reform efforts emphasised structure, coordination, accountability, and long-term planning. He urged members of the association across the country to begin mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
