Abuja: The Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, has advised residents in the capital territory to adhere strictly to all fire safety rules as Muslims commemorate the Eid-El-Kabir festival. The FFS Spokesperson, Barnabas Anyam, stressed the importance of vigilance during this festive period.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Anyam quoted the command’s Controller, Muhammed Anas, as urging residents to promptly contact the command during emergencies by dialing 08032003557. Anas emphasized that the service, in addition to ensuring fire safety, also provides other emergency services, including drowning and building collapse rescues.
The controller highlighted the importance of residents being proactive in maintaining safety by purchasing fire extinguishers and fire blankets, and exercising caution when handling cooking gases. Anas noted that the festive season involves increased kitchen activities, necessitating strict adherence to safety measures.
He also cautioned parents against allowing children to handle inflammable materials during the celebrations. Furthermore, Anas instructed all Station Commanders to ensure their firefighters are fully prepared to address any fire emergencies in their areas.
Anas reiterated that all firefighting equipment was in excellent condition, and there was no justification for any lapses in performance from the officers. He described the service personnel as essential workers and mandated them to remain on ‘red alert’, with no personnel allowed to take the holiday off.
