Lagos: Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has generously donated N100 million to the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion in anticipation of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. The governor also provided four sets of two-bedroom apartments, two utility vehicles, four cows, and 500 bags of rice, among other food items, to support the legionnaires and the families of fallen heroes.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor made these announcements during the State Executive Council meeting as part of the launch of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund at Lagos House, Ikeja. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the emblem appeal as a national tradition and a constitutional duty to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the country.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the donations are a tangible expression of appreciation for the sacrifices made by these individuals, which allow Nigerians to live in a free and united country. He reiterated the state’s commitment to annually supporting the Nigerian Legion and expressed gratitude for their contributions to the country’s continued existence and unity.
Mr. Akeem Wolimoh, the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigerian Legion, expressed gratitude to the governor and the state government for their ongoing support. He highlighted how government interventions have significantly improved the living conditions of Legion members and their families, with many dependents benefiting from skill acquisition programs and other empowerment initiatives.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Secretary to the State Government Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, and the Head of Service Mr. Bode Agoro. Also present were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, members of the State Executive Council, and senior military and police officers.
