Abuja: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in partnering with Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance security, economic development, and the establishment of green city initiatives, among other areas of mutual benefit. This development was highlighted during the visit of the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Al-Balawi, to the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Al-Balawi commended the efforts of Minister Wike and President Bola Tinubu’s administration for their work in developing what he termed a ‘beautiful green city.’ The ambassador emphasized his eagerness to foster stronger ties with the FCT Administration and to exchange expertise on green city development. Additionally, he underscored the importance of enhancing the relationship between the FCT and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, along with other major cities in the kingdom.
Minister Wike, in response, acknowledged the strong and enduring relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. He expressed the FCT’s readiness to leverage this relationship for the territory’s benefit. Wike indicated a keen interest in visiting Riyadh and other Saudi cities to explore areas of shared interest and collaboration for mutual gain.
Highlighting Saudi Arabia’s significance in the Gulf Region, Wike noted the country’s rich history and its longstanding ties with Nigeria. He expressed a desire to capitalize on this positive relationship to facilitate cooperation and mutual learning between Riyadh and the FCT.
The Minister also appreciated Ambassador Al-Balawi’s recognition of the ongoing transformation within the FCT, attributing these developments to President Tinubu’s political resolve. Wike explained that the Tinubu administration has been instrumental in transforming the FCT into a modern city capable of competing on a global scale. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to further enhancing the capital city’s status on the world stage.
