Post: Shell and Daystar Power Receive Recognition for Equality and Sustainability at NOG Energy Awards


Abuja: Shell and its subsidiary, Daystar Power, have received top honours at the 25th Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition in Abuja. The awards were for their contributions to equality, diversity, inclusion, and sustainable energy development.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the awards were presented at the NOG Energy Awards ceremony on Wednesday night. Shell received the Equality in Energy Award, while Daystar Power won the Sustainability in Energy Award in recognition of its decarbonisation initiatives.



Speaking after receiving the awards, Shell Executive Vice-President, Nigeria and Country Chair, Mr. Marno de Jong, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy industry through investments in deepwater oil and gas. The awards they received were also for their investment in integrated gas, renewable energy, and power solutions. De Jong stated that the awards reflected Shell’s longstanding contributions to the country’s energy sector and its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.



He emphasized that the company has continued to create opportunities for women by appointing them to key leadership positions across its operations. Additionally, he noted that Daystar Power was expanding access to clean energy through the provision of solar and hybrid power solutions for businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, and C´te d’Ivoire.



The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bayo Ojulari, congratulated the award recipients and commended stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the conference. It was reported that Shell, one of the major sponsors of the conference, also hosted a dinner and participated in the exhibition held as part of the event.



Furthermore, it was noted that the former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo), Ms. Elohor Aiboni, was recently appointed Executive Vice-President and Country Chair, Nigeria, becoming the first Nigerian to hold the combined position.
