Mbatyerev: Some smallholder farmers in Mbatyerev, Gboko Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue, on Friday received free farm inputs to aid their farming business. Mr. Vitalis Tarnongu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Teryima Nigeria Limited, who donated the items, said that the gesture was to assist the farmers, especially the indigent ones, to grow their agricultural businesses.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Tarnongu said that the donation was part of his resolve to always give back to the society that made him. The CEO, who is also the Benue Coordinator of the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), stated that he promised God that he would always support others, especially the downtrodden.
Tarnongu expressed satisfaction in assisting people to overcome their challenges and positively impact society. He mentioned that this donation is part of his regular annual activities. He recalled distributing free, improved seeds to hundreds of farmers in Makurdi on August 7. He believes this gesture would reduce crime, tackle hunger, and assist government efforts towards food security.
He emphasized the commitment to continue empowering farmers with necessary inputs to boost production. Tarnongu also extended his gratitude to his partner in the agricultural industry, Mr. Emmanuel Akor, the Syngenta Technical Lead for Nigeria and Ghana, for his unwavering support. He described Akor as the pillar and backbone of Teryima Nigeria Limited and noted that some of the inputs donated came from the technical lead of Syngenta.
Rev. Fr Michael Melladu, who received the items on behalf of the farmers, expressed appreciation to Teryima for the kind gesture. Melladu stated that the inputs would significantly aid farmers and ensure maximum yield. He encouraged individuals and corporate organisations in the agricultural sector to emulate the donor’s initiative.
