Enugu: The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Sen. Osita Ngwu, has announced that the South-East region is seeing significant improvements in road infrastructure under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sen. Ngwu, a member of the Senate Committee on Works, made these remarks during the Renewed Hope Media Tour of ongoing and completed federal projects in Enugu State. The tour included inspections of the Eke Obinagu Flyover, sections of the Enugu-Portharcourt Expressway, the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, and the ongoing Abakpa Junction Bridge project.
Speaking at the Eke Obinagu Flyover, Ngwu highlighted the bridge’s importance in alleviating traffic congestion on the route connecting Ebonyi and Enugu states. He emphasized that the bridge, awarded in 2024, was completed in a timely manner, thanks to consistent oversight by the Senate Committee on Works.
Ngwu addressed claims that the South-East had been overlooked by the Federal Government, asserting that the region is currently experiencing numerous infrastructure projects. He noted that since President Tinubu’s administration began, Enugu has not been neglected, with multiple federal road projects underway.
He pointed out the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Portharcourt Expressway, noting the swift repair of the collapsed Artisan Bridge, which had previously disrupted travel. Ngwu praised the impact of these projects, which have significantly reduced travel times and improved safety.
Ngwu further elaborated on various ongoing federal projects in Enugu, including the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the dualisation of the Enugu-9th Mile-Makurdi Expressway. He stated that these projects have mitigated accidents and alleviated previous travel hazards.
Also present during the tour, Mr. Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, affirmed that no region in the country has been neglected. He cited various infrastructural rehabilitations as evidence of the administration’s commitment to national development.
Mr. Smart Okpi, the Federal Controller of Works in Enugu State, described the Eke Obinagu Flyover as a federal initiative to ease traffic around a busy market area. He detailed the bridge’s construction progress and adherence to federal standards.
Mr. Uche Anichukwu, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Peter Mbah on External Relations, praised the federal initiative, noting its complementarity with state projects aimed at enhancing regional economic growth.
