Post: Speaker: 18 Nominees Screened on Merit, Competence

Awka: The Anambra House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Mr. Pius Okoye, has announced that all 18 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Charles Soludo were screened and confirmed based on their merit, competence, and suitability, rather than any form of sentiment.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okoye, who also serves as the House Committee Chairman on Screening and Election Matters, stated that the nominees were highly qualified and possessed the necessary expertise required for their respective ministries. He clarified that rumors suggesting a nominee was cleared due to sentiments surrounding her son’s tragic abduction and killing in 2025 were false. Instead, the nominee’s ideas about governance and her vision to reposition the women affairs ministry were the reasons for her confirmation.

Okoye described the nominees as experts in their respective fields, highlighting that all candidates successfully passed the screening process. The screening exercise, which spanned two days, was described as very tasking by Okoye.

He further explained that the original committee consisted of 13 members drawn from different political parties, and an additional eight members were co-opted to ensure a seamless process. Okoye assured that the report of the screening exercise would be made available to the public in a timely manner.
