Abuja: Mr Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication, has emphasized the need for states to establish their own Police Forces as a solution to existing security gaps. Dare expressed his views on the State Police Bill during an interview on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic On Podcast, highlighting the significance of state-level law enforcement.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the State Police Bill has already been passed by both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Dare pointed out the current security situation in Nigeria, stating, “The Nigerian security situation right now shows a lot of gaps. One of the best options right now to address these gaps is State Police. And I think the government has done the right thing.” He advocated for the devolution of power in security matters, suggesting it as a viable solution that should be implemented.
Dare dismissed concerns regarding potential misuse of power by state governors over their Police Forces. He emphasized the importance of adherence to the law, stating, “There is a law in this country. This is a federation. You won’t say because you’re an APC governor, you’ll violate the law of our country.”
The presidential adviser also responded to criticism concerning the First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu’s recommendation for women to engage in petty trades to supplement family income. He defended her stance, asserting the importance of entrepreneurial skills and the role of small-scale entrepreneurs in the economy. Dare encouraged individuals to draw inspiration from prominent business figures like Aliko Dangote, who began as a small trader.
Furthermore, Dare addressed the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly regarding Mr Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the NDC. He expressed confidence in the current government’s performance, asserting, “This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. He is not a nightmare to our government. Right now, he is no threat because we stand on the solid ground of performance.” Dare highlighted the government’s initiatives and the ongoing implementation of policies across the country.
