This achievement was confirmed after their performance at the World Relay Championship currently taking place in Botswana.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Nigerian team, comprising Favor Ashe, Jennifer Chukwuka-Obi, Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson, finished fourth in Heat 1 with a time of 40.24 seconds. This timing marks the fastest ever recorded by an African nation in this category. Despite their impressive performance, the team must wait for the completion of all three heats to confirm their qualification for the 2027 World Championships.
The 2027 World Athletics Championships is set to occur from September 11 to 19, 2027. The successful qualification of Team Nigeria is a significant milestone, and the team is now preparing for the global event in Beijing.
