Accra: Team Nigeria won another gold at the ongoing Senior Athletic Championships in Accra, Ghana. The quartet of Rosemary Chigozie, Jennifer Obi Chukwuka, Rosemary Chukwuma, and Miracle Ezechukwu secured gold in the women’s 4×100m relay with a time of 42.94 seconds, outpacing Liberia, which finished second, and the host nation, Ghana, which claimed third place.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the men’s 4×100m relay team from Nigeria, comprising Favor Ashe, James Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin, and Chidera Ezeakor, earned a silver medal with a time of 38.70 seconds. The team finished just behind Ivory Coast, which won the gold medal with a time of 38.52 seconds.
The Nigerian team remains in contention for additional medals as Nnamdi Adeboye Onweaze has qualified for the men’s 110m hurdles final. Onweaze will compete in the final on Saturday, having recorded a time of 14.09 seconds in the qualifiers, finishing behind Senegal’s Louis Mendy, who completed the race in 13.65 seconds.
