Abuja: Thrive Agric has urged the Federal Government to implement policy reforms, strengthen funding mechanisms, and deepen integration of basic technology skills education in schools. The Chief Executive Officer of Thrive Agric, Mr. Uka Eje, made the call at the third edition of the Abuja Tech Converge (ATC). Eje emphasized that widespread basic technology skills education would accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation and unlock opportunities for young people. He highlighted the abundance of tech talent in Nigeria but noted that effective knowledge transfer requires deliberate policies exposing the youth to practical learning and employability skills.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Eje stated that private institutions are willing to train individuals, but government involvement is needed to connect them with the right entities, especially universities and technical colleges. He stressed that technology skills training must extend beyond corporate environments and be integrated across schools nationwide. Eje acknowledged the government’s efforts in entrepreneurship education but pointed out the necessity of access to finance for business ventures.
Eje also mentioned that technology education advances learning in product management and software development within existing school environments. He urged the government to prioritize technology education at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels to bridge skills gaps and enhance global competitiveness. On the topic of funding, Eje observed that many startups lack the training and structure to attract investors, despite the availability of venture capitalists ready to invest.
Mr. Akintunde Akinwande, Head of Digital at OCP Africa, supported Eje’s views by highlighting the importance of technology in addressing infrastructure challenges, particularly in agriculture. Akinwande pointed out that while developing solutions is manageable, encouraging their adoption remains a significant challenge. He urged the government to establish nationwide co-creation hubs and collaborate with the private sector on policy development to strengthen innovation ecosystems.
