Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on Tuesday. Dr Musiliu Oseni has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commission, while Dr Yusuf Ali will serve as the Vice Chairman.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the appointments were announced in a statement issued by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday. Dr Musiliu Oseni, who began his service as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later became Vice Chairman of NERC, will assume the role of Chairman starting December 1, 2025. His tenure will last for 10 years, adhering to the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr Yusuf Ali, appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, will also take on his new role as Vice Chairman beginning December 1, 2025. His term will run until the completion of his first tenure.
Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr Nathan Shatti, who is serving his second term as a Commissioner, having started in January 2017. Mr Dafe Akpeneye also continues into his second term, having been initially appointed in January 2017. Mrs Aisha Kanti Bello is serving her second term since joining the Commission in December 2020. Dr Chidi Ike and Dr Fouad Animashaun have been appointed for their first terms, with Animashaun’s term starting in December 2025. Dr Animashaun, an energy economist, previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has tasked the board members with deepening and consolidating ongoing reforms in the power sector. He emphasized the importance of discharging their responsibilities in alignment with the Electricity Act, 2023.
