Ogbomoso: President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State to fortify security measures following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in the region. The announcement was made during a visit by a Federal Government delegation, led by Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, to the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities near Ogbomoso in Oriire Local Government Area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the delegation conveyed President Tinubu’s concern regarding the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele, which occurred on May 15. The recruitment of forest guards will be carried out in collaboration with the Oyo State Government to bolster security in the affected areas and their surroundings.
The delegation also informed local leaders and lawmakers that their request for establishing a military base in the area would be communi
cated to the President for further consideration. Additionally, Tinubu has directed a specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted individuals.
Present at the delegation were notable figures including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare. Addressing the community, Gbajabiamila emphasized President Tinubu’s deep concern over the incident and assured that every resource would be utilized to ensure the victims’ safe return.
Gbajabiamila reassured parents and community members that the rescue operation would be intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated. He emphasized the government’s commitment to returning the abducted safely and expressed understanding of the community’s fears and anxieties.
The delegation also paid a visit to the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Ola
oye, to express condolences to him and the people of the area affected by the incident. They met with Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, the wife of a deceased school teacher, and her two children, conveying the President’s condolences and assuring them of the government’s support during their time of grief.
