Abuja: Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that the ongoing infrastructure developments across the territory, including rural communities, are expected to ensure a favorable electoral outcome for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections. Wike shared his insights following an inspection tour of several infrastructure projects underway in the region.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike highlighted the evolving political landscape in Abuja, noting that traditional voting behaviors in the FCT are shifting towards President Tinubu. He referenced the results of the February 21 area council elections, where the ruling All Progressives Congress secured victories in five of the six area council chairmanship seats, as evidence of this change.
Wike emphasized that the Tinubu administration has made significant strides by focusing on the basic needs of citizens and expanding development projects beyond the city center to previously overlooked rural areas and satellite towns. He asserted that Nigerians seek practical improvements such as infrastructure, stable electricity, and better living conditions, rather than political promises.
The minister stated that the extension of development to satellite towns is unprecedented and marks a significant achievement in the administration’s first three years. He expressed confidence that the FCT will support the president in future elections based purely on the administration’s performance.
Recalling a historic visit to the Kwali Area Council for the inauguration of the A2 to Pai Road, Wike noted it was the first time a sitting president visited such a rural area for a project inauguration. He assured residents that the momentum of development projects would continue, with numerous road and water projects slated for completion and inauguration.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the current projects, noting that the contractors have committed to completing most of them by the end of the month, in time for Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. He praised the progress made on the Court of Appeal Complex, FCT Division project at Dakibiyu, and other significant infrastructure projects across the territory.
In particular, Wike highlighted the near-completion of the Judges’ Quarters at Katampe and ongoing work on the proposed residences for Industrial Court judges and the Code of Conduct Tribunal quarters. He also noted advancements in road projects, including the Collector Road CN2 in Katampe and the Gaduwa District road, where streetlights and walkways are being installed.
At the Wasa site, designated for the relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village, road and streetlight installations have been completed. Wike mentioned the ongoing work on water connections and the commencement of construction for a police station and residential quarters, in coordination with security officials.
