Abakaliki: The Federal Government has announced that the completion of the Calabar-Ebonyi Trans-Saharan Superhighway will unlock economic opportunities, enhance regional integration, and improve connectivity across multiple regions of Nigeria.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this statement while leading a Federal Government delegation to inspect the ongoing projects in Abakaliki. The inspection included a review of the 118km Calabar-Ebonyi section of the Trans-Saharan Superhighway, which is being constructed by Infouest Nigeria Ltd at a cost of ?445 billion, featuring a rigid concrete pavement.
The minister highlighted the superhighway as one of the key projects under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. A significant feature of the project is the construction of a 700-metre, 12-span bridge aimed at addressing longstanding flooding issues in the N’dibe Beach area, thereby restoring access for affected communities. The superhighway is expected to connect Calabar, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Abuja, fostering economic growth and regional integration.
Idris noted that Ebonyi State is witnessing the simultaneous execution of multiple major federal projects for the first time, reflecting the administration’s commitment to equitable development. He called on contractors to maintain quality standards and expedite the project delivery, reassuring citizens of the government’s focus on infrastructure that improves lives and livelihoods nationwide.
