Abuja: Troops have successfully neutralised a suspected female spy affiliated with ISWAP/JAS in Borno State and arrested 14 suspected criminals, including members of IPOB/ESN, cultists, and a deserter soldier, in various locations across the country. Operational reports provided to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) highlighted these achievements, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to maintain national security.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the suspected terrorist was identified through CCTV surveillance as she approached a military position from the Sambisa axis. Troops from the 222 Battalion at Forward Operating Base Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno took swift action to neutralise the threat before she could breach the defensive perimeter.
In a separate operation, troops under Operation MESA apprehended a deserter soldier from the 13 Brigade at a checkpoint in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). During the arrest, a military uniform and a vehicle were recovered from the deserter, raising concerns about the security breach.
Further, troops intercepted another vehicle carrying suspected stolen armoured cables, leading to the driver’s arrest for further investigation. In the South-East region, as part of Operation UDO KA, five suspected IPOB/ESN members were detained at Etuekwe Junction in Orsu LGA of Imo. These suspects were found at a location believed to be a transit route for the criminal group.
Additionally, troops from the 82 Division Garrison and 103 Battalion, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested eight suspected cultists in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu. Preliminary investigations indicated their involvement in terrorist activities around the border communities between Enugu and Ebonyi states. The suspects are now in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
The report also noted that ongoing operations, including Desert Sanity V, FANSAN YAMMA, and Savannah Shield, recorded no major incidents within their respective jurisdictions during the review period. Meanwhile, a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Sub-Delegation in Maiduguri visited Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI/MNJTF at Kinnasara Cantonment in Monguno, Borno. The ICRC team briefed the sector commander on its humanitarian mission and commitment to supporting conflict-affected populations across the Lake Chad Basin.
