Lokoja: Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, operating under ‘Operation Tiger Paw II’, have successfully neutralized a suspected terrorist and recovered a significant cache of arms and equipment in a coordinated ambush in the Adankolo Forest Reserve, within the Lokoja Local Government Area. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security across major routes in Kogi State.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the operation was announced in a statement by the brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, on Monday in Lokoja. The army has been actively engaged in similar operations against criminal elements in other regions, such as Obajana and the Agbaja forest, as part of their strategy to secure the state.
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists, soldiers from the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group strategically positioned themselves at a known bandit crossing point within the forest reserve. Upon contact, a fierce gunfight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist, while others managed to escape into the bush with gunshot wounds. A subsequent mop-up operation in the area led to the recovery of significant weapons and logistical materials.
According to the army, the items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other materials seized by the troops are a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and cash amounting to ?62,900.
The army emphasized that this operation underscores its ongoing commitment to denying terrorists the freedom of action and improving security along major routes and communities in Kogi State.
