Enugu: Troops of the Nigerian Army under 82 Division Garrison have rescued 12 kidnapped victims in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the operation followed a distress call received on Thursday concerning the abduction of residents from the Ette Community.

The source from the Army Headquarters reported that the troops, in collaboration with local security outfits including Keystone operatives, Forest Guards, and the Neighbourhood Watch, swiftly mobilized to the area and launched a fighting patrol to track the kidnappers. Upon sighting the troops, the kidnappers fled into a nearby forest after a brief engagement, abandoning their captives.

The troops successfully rescued all 12 victims during their exploration of the area. The victims were subsequently handed over to the police for debriefing and eventual reunion with their families. Additionally, two suspects linked to the kidnapping incident were arrested and are currently in police custody for further investigation.

The source added that the situation in the area remains calm, with security agencies continuing surveillance operations to track down the fleeing suspects.
