Istanbul: Trkiye’s President Recep Erdogan has called upon members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to enhance their transport integration efforts. In a video message delivered to the OIC transport ministers meeting held in Istanbul, President Erdogan emphasized the critical role of effective and reliable networks in unlocking the economic potential of the Islamic world.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Erdogan highlighted the vast geographic span of Muslim countries, which stretches from Asia to Africa and Europe to the Middle East. He pointed out that these regions are equipped with natural corridors, a dynamic young population, and fast-growing markets. The President stressed that to fully realize this potential and transform geographical advantages into strategic power, efficient, reliable, and integrated transport networks are essential.
President Erdogan further elaborated on the benefits of stronger links across highways, railways, ports, and airports, noting that such connections would not only enhance trade but also foster social and cultural interactions among member states. He underscored Trkiye’s recent infrastructure projects, such as the Marmaray rail tunnel, Eurasia Tunnel, and major bridges, which have bolstered global trade routes and expanded the nation’s rail, maritime, and aviation capacity.
Moreover, Erdogan mentioned Trkiye’s support for the Trans-Caspian East-West Middle Corridor Project, which aims to revive the historic Silk Road with a modern vision. He emphasized that these investments should not be evaluated solely within a national framework, as the ultimate goal is to strengthen integration with OIC member states, develop cross-border corridors, and generate added value through joint projects.
The Turkish President also highlighted the success of constructive negotiations conducted during the conference, which led to significant decisions being made. These include creating a roadmap to strengthen transport links among member states, increasing solidarity on international platforms, and preparing a transport connectivity strategy document under Trkiye’s OIC term presidency.
Erdogan concluded by stating that the effective implementation of these decisions would require uninterrupted technical meetings and meticulous monitoring mechanisms. He expressed confidence that the demonstrated will would pave the way for achieving these objectives.
