Owerri: A faith-based charitable organisation in the United States, called Victorious Grace Charity Foundation, says 900 Nigerians have so far benefitted from its free eye-care and medicated glasses, food, and clothes. The foundation’s Vision Bearer, Mrs. Ngozi Kelechi, announced this during its community outreach in Owerri on Monday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Kelechi, represented by the group’s Coordinator for the Eastern Zone, Mrs. Gloria Onugwu, stated that the beneficiaries were drawn from five different locations within the country. Onugwu mentioned that these locations included Emii in Owerri North and Okplala in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Areas of Imo, Abakaliki in Ebonyi, and two locations in Ogun, namely Mowe and another unspecified area.
Onugwu explained that the two-day community outreach involved providing each beneficiary with free eye checks, medicated glasses, and medicines. Additionally, indigent women received a 10kg bag of rice and a wrapper each as part of the foundation’s charitable donations.
The Assistant Coordinator of the zone, Mr. Francis Ukachi, called on governments to take more practical steps in addressing the needs of society’s downtrodden. An octogenarian beneficiary, Mr. Martins Nwachukwu, expressed gratitude for the free health service and encouraged other Nigerians to follow the foundation’s example.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Ngozi Oluibe, praised the foundation for its generosity, while a seven-year-old boy named Chidiebube Nwachukwu, who suffered from eye irritation, hoped that his condition would be effectively treated. Additionally, 93-year-old Mrs. Chizoba Echefula, who received a pair of glasses, a wrapper, and a bag of rice, described the gesture as an answered prayer.
