Post: Uduma Emerges as New NOUN VC


Abuja: The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has approved the appointment of Prof. Uduma Uduma as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution. The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council, Malam Isa Yuguda, announced this while briefing newsmen after the council’s meeting.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the appointment will take effect from February 11, 2026, following the expiration of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters’ tenure. Yuguda stated that the board’s recommendation was considered and approved by the Governing Council. He expressed confidence in Professor Uduma’s leadership and vision, emphasizing that his expertise and experience will be instrumental in driving the university’s continued growth and success.



NAN reports that Uduma is a Professor of Philosophy and Logic, as well as a Barrister-at-Law. Born on January 30, 1966, he obtained his first degree from the University of Calabar, graduating as the best student in his faculty. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.



Throughout his career, Prof. Uduma has held several academic and administrative positions, including Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the National Open University of Nigeria. Notably, he served as the Study Centre Director at Abakaliki, Ebonyi, where he successfully increased student enrolment from 496 to over 2,000.
