Ilorin: A veteran journalist, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, emphasized the unparalleled potential for success through the journalism profession while receiving an Award of Recognition from the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Ilorin.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adedoyin, with over 30 years of experience in journalism, highlighted that the profession offers opportunities for fame and wealth, ensuring journalists are remembered in society. He expressed concerns, however, about the commercialization of the profession, noting that some journalists fail to speak truth to power due to compromises.
Adedoyin advised journalists to adhere to ethical practices, emphasizing the importance of fearing God and maintaining professionalism to secure their livelihood. He urged experienced journalists to mentor the younger generation by exemplifying ethical conduct and professional excellence.
Reflecting on his family’s legacy of philanthropy, Adedoyin shared how his late father dedicated his life to community service. He stressed that true philanthropy lies in enabling others to improve themselves, a principle he has embraced by teaching at the university for eight years without monetary compensation.
Moreover, Adedoyin cautioned against over-reliance on Artificial Intelligence in journalism, advocating for its use as an aid in producing quality content rather than a crutch.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that two other veteran journalists, Dr. Mahmoud AbdulRaheem and Prof. Lukman Azeez, were honored with awards at the same occasion.
