Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the existence of separate camps in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that there is only one PDP. Wike made these remarks in Abuja while interacting with journalists after inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike noted that it is natural in any political setting for some individuals to feel dissatisfied, stating, “that is not unusual.” He emphasized that discussions on reconciliation were ongoing ahead of the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30. The Minister clarified that holding the convention does not necessarily preclude reconciliation efforts, and discussions could continue after the convention.
Wike further stated, “That there is a convention doesn’t mean there will be no reconciliation. Convention will go on; everything has its own time.” He expressed his unawareness of any separate camps, reiterating, “There’s only one PDP. So it would be wrong for me to say the other camp. I don’t know whether any other camp exists. As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP and it will be incorrect to suggest otherwise.”
Highlighting the timelines involved, the Minister pointed out that party primaries are scheduled to commence from April 23 to May 13, in accordance with the Electoral Act and the Independent Electoral Commission’s guidelines. “This timeline leaves little room for delays,” he said.
