Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has replicated his Rivers’ Rainbow Coalition initiative in the FCT to deliver good governance to residents in area councils. Wike disclosed this while hosting the newly elected chairmen of FCT Area Councils, who visited him in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the chairmen visited the Minister to present their Certificates of Return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of their swearing-in in June. He congratulated the chairmen on their victory during the Feb. 21 FCT area council elections and urged them to prioritize good governance and cooperation for the benefit of the people.
The minister pledged to work closely with the chairmen irrespective of party affiliations under the rainbow coalition initiative aimed at delivering development to residents. He explained that the initiative would bring together the chairmen and councillors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and those elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to work together for the good of FCT residents.
According to him, effective governance in the territory requires collaboration among leaders, regardless of political differences. “No matter the party, what is important is that we work together. Since I came as minister, we have always worked together in the city, and that is why we have continued to achieve results,” Wike stated.
Wike assured the chairmen that the FCT Administration would partner with them once they assume office in June, urging them to prepare for the responsibilities ahead. He also congratulated the outgoing council chairmen, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
