Abuja: A 40-year-old woman, Akinibi Tosin, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of N1.7 million. Tosin, who works as a sales representative, is facing charges of stealing and betrayal of trust. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the prosecutor, Inspector Odusina Olawole, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences between January 26, 2026, and March 9, 2026, at Lexican Investment Limited located at Omole Estate, Ile-Ife. Olawole stated that Tosin allegedly stole N1,750,465 from Lexican Investment Limited, breaching the trust placed in her by the company. The alleged offences are said to contravene Sections 383, 390(9), and 434 of the Osun Criminal Code, 2002.
The defendant’s legal representative, Mr. Conscience Mume, requested bail for his client, assuring the court that she would not abscond. Chief Magistrate Abosede Sarumi granted Tosin bail in the amount of N250,000, with the requirement of two sureties of the same sum. The sureties are required to swear an affidavit of means, present a three-year tax clearance, and possess a landed property.
