Ibadan: A Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has sentenced Peace Christopher, aged 45, to seven months in a correctional facility for assaulting her father’s landlady. The court proceedings revealed that Christopher was charged with breach of peace and assault.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Latunji, handed down the sentence after Christopher pleaded guilty to the charges and the police prosecution presented evidence. The court noted the seriousness of the offenses before delivering the verdict.
In her judgment, Magistrate Latunji stated, “I have carefully considered all the evidence tendered before the court and find Christopher guilty of both offenses.” Consequently, Christopher received a one-month sentence for breach of peace, with the option to pay a N10,000 fine, and a six-month sentence for assault, with the option of a N50,000 fine.
The prosecution counsel, Inspector Oluseye Akinola, informed the court that the crime occurred in November 2025, behind KS Motel in Yemetu, Ibadan, Oyo State. Akinola explained that Christopher assaulted the landlady, Mrs. Olubukola Ojomo, by hitting her on the right eyelid with a sharp object.
During the trial, Christopher testified that she had repeatedly warned Ojomo against assisting her visually impaired father in withdrawing money from his bank account. Despite her warnings, Ojomo continued to help, leading to the altercation.
The prosecutor emphasized that Christopher’s actions violated Sections 249 and 451 of the Criminal Code cap 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000.
