Abuja: The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, emphasized that youth empowerment must lead to job creation and innovation, contributing to sustainable development. This statement was made during her keynote address at the 2026 iHEAL Global Youth Impact Forum in Abuja, organized by Waterlight Save Initiative for young Nigerians.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Orelope-Adefulire, represented by Mr. Desmond Utomwen, highlighted the vast potential of Nigeria’s youth population to accelerate development when equipped with quality education, financial access, mentorship, and participation in decision-making. She urged for deliberate investments in human capital, encouraging youths to become innovators, problem-solvers, and ethical leaders.
She challenged the youth to take charge of sustainable development, peace, inclusion, and environmental sustainability in their communities. She assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administrati
on is committed to expanding opportunities for young Nigerians through economic diversification and digital innovation.
Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, wife of the Kwara Governor, also stressed the importance of youth and women inclusion in governance. She noted the Kwara Government’s commitment to youth inclusion through various appointments and programs.
Mr. Ero Ibhafidon, CEO of Waterlight Save Initiative, explained the iHEAL Framework’s role in driving sustainable development. The initiative supports young entrepreneurs with non-refundable grants and vocational tools to enhance economic self-reliance.
Former House of Representatives member, Mr. Shina Peller, and other stakeholders, encouraged the youth to engage in entrepreneurship and leadership, moving beyond dependency on government and private-sector jobs. The forum underscored the importance of collaboration among communities, policymakers, and sectors to address societal challenges.
