Ibadan: The consensus candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to build on the achievements of Gov. Seyi Makinde if he wins the 2027 election. Adekanmbi made the pledge on Monday during a private visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Fresh FM, Mr Yinka Ayefele, at the Ayefele Music House in Ibadan.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adekanmbi emphasized the need for the continuation of people-oriented projects initiated by the Makinde administration, focusing on healthcare delivery, agriculture, infrastructure, security, and workers’ welfare. He assured the people of Oyo State that his administration would consolidate on every achievement of Makinde’s administration if victorious in 2027. During his visit, he sought the support of the radio station’s management and challenged them to ask hard questions in future programs.
Adekanmbi stated that there are still several months before the general elections and expressed his readiness to share his programs with the people of Oyo State. He commended Fresh FM for its fair and unbiased reporting and urged it to maintain its credibility.
In response, Ayefele affirmed the station’s commitment to work with the public rather than individuals, reiterating that Fresh FM belongs to nobody and is for everybody. He indicated that the APM candidate would gain the station’s support if he shows he can surpass Gov. Seyi Makinde’s achievements. Ayefele reminded Adekanmbi of the significant task ahead and wished him success in his political journey.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Gov. Makinde has not yet publicly announced Adekanmbi as his preferred candidate. However, reports suggest that Makinde named Adekanmbi as his successor during a recent meeting with stakeholders in his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party. Many of Makinde’s allies and several aspirants from his faction have moved to the APM, and the governor has urged them to support Adekanmbi.
Following the announcement, Adekanmbi has been actively visiting key figures in Ibadan. Previously, he served as a Commissioner for Finance under the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi and has continued to engage in public service and political discussions in the state. In 2025, Makinde appointed him as chairman of the committee overseeing the upgrade of the Ibadan Airport, a key infrastructure project of the current administration.
