Oyo: All pupils and teachers abducted during the May 15 attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom. Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced the development in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, confirming the release of the victims.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the victims, including 46 pupils, teachers, and the principal of a secondary school, were abducted when heavily armed gunmen invaded the community. The successful rescue operation led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers by security operatives, with some members of the criminal gang being neutralised.
Mr. Onanuga emphasized that no ransom or concessions were made to secure the release of the abductees. He clarified that the rescue operation was conducted without any exchange, noting, “There was no quid pro quo in the rescue, as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, whose release the kidnappers demanded, is being prosecuted for his atrocities.”
It was further stated that security agencies would soon provide a detailed account of the operation to the public. The involvement of security forces and their decisive actions were pivotal in ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals.
