Nigeria: Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Mrs. Mopelola Ibrahim, has pledged to enhance collaboration and engage robustly with Benin to strengthen the existing relationship between the two nations. Ibrahim, a seasoned diplomat with more than 25 years of experience, made this commitment after presenting her letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Romuald Wadagni.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ibrahim emphasized the strong relationship that has always existed between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. She acknowledged the absence of a substantive Nigerian ambassador to Benin for some time but noted that the embassy had continued to function effectively due to its reliable and qualified staff. Ibrahim believes her appointment will facilitate higher-level engagement, including direct interactions with the host country’s presidency.
Ibrahim highlighted the cultural and geographical proximity between Nigerians and Beninoise, likening them to brothers and sisters. She expressed a desire for better integration of the two peoples and enhanced commercial collaboration to facilitate cross-border trade. The ambassador stressed the importance of leveraging each country’s strengths and resources for mutual development, citing peace, prosperity, and security in Benin as beneficial to Nigeria.
The ambassador is optimistic about achieving integration and collaboration, as both countries share a common vision for progress. She expressed confidence in her ability to accomplish set goals with support from both the Nigerian and Benin Presidents. Ibrahim also called on Nigerians residing in Benin to adhere to local laws and assured them of the embassy’s support in their endeavors.
Ibrahim concluded by urging Nigerians in Benin to remain law-abiding, which would enable the embassy to effectively pursue their interests and ensure their comfortable stay in the country.
