Abuja: Tuesday Achukwu has emerged as the overall best net at the 2026 TYB Lady Captain and Exco’s inaugural golf tournament held at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Achukwu, playing off a handicap of 17.3, secured victory with a gross score of 82 and a net score of 65, winning the tournament on countback. The event marked the inaugural tournament of Lady Captain Jumai Adamu, bringing together a competitive field of golfers.
S.J. Marcus achieved the best gross score with 83, while Eunice Pam was the runner-up in the overall net category with a score of 67. In Ladies Category One for handicaps 0-18, Patience Abechi emerged as the best net, returning 84 gross and 67 net. Judith Igwugwu and Yohanna Mercy followed closely as first and second runners-up, respectively.
Faith Osaze triumphed in the Ladies Category Two net prize for handicaps 19-54 with a 101 gross and 67 net score, winning on countback. Nura Umar recorded the best gross score in this category with 74, and Habila Zakaria finished runner-up net with 76 gross and 65 net.
In the Men’s category one, Agiozie Chinedu Ibekwe claimed the best net with 80 gross and 64 net. M.O. Ajani had the best gross score with 89, while Anthony Onyishi finished runner-up net with 93 gross and 66 net. Akande Abiodun won the Men’s Category Two net prize with 98 gross and 66 net, securing victory on countback.
The Veterans Men category saw Martin Adaboh emerge as the best net with 79 gross and 65 net, while Halima Wada was the runner-up with 117 gross and 92 net. Farida Wada claimed the Veterans Ladies’ best net prize with 86 gross and 69 net, with Idris Wada as runner-up.
In the Super Veterans category, Okeke Odili emerged as the best net with 89 gross and 68 net. Florence Anyanwu won the Super Veterans Ladies category, recording 104 gross and 77 net.
The tournament also featured auxiliary prizes, with O. Abangwu winning nearest to the Pin in the Veterans Ladies category, and Victor Garba in the Veterans Men category. Vera Oduyebo and Ugo Chigborogu won Nearest to the Pin in the Ladies and Men’s categories, respectively. Victor Ezugwu and Sarah Fabuyi recorded the longest drives among Veterans Men and Ladies.
Achukwu also achieved the overall Men’s Longest Drive at 305 metres, adding to his impressive performance. He expressed delight at his victory and acknowledged the strong competition, expressing his commitment to continue improving his game.
Lady Captain Jumai Adamu emphasized the tournament’s purpose was to foster friendship, participation, and competition among golfers. She appreciated the club leadership, golfers, and sponsors for their support and highlighted the growing interest in golf.
Ali Peters, representing the Club Captain, commended Adamu and her committee for the successful tournament, praising the quality of competition and sportsmanship displayed. He encouraged participants to continue promoting golf and camaraderie at the club.
The tournament, which saw participation from over 266 golfers, featured various handicap and age categories, with prizes awarded to outstanding performers.
